UC Student Veterans Summer Writing Workshop

All veterans have memories of their military service, from enlistment, boot camp and trainings, through deployments and homecomings. At the UC Student Veterans Summer Writing Workshop, which takes place at UC Santa Barbara in June, student veterans from across the 10 campuses of the University of California gather for one week to study and practice the art of storytelling. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students learn how to compose personal narratives about their military experiences and share their stories with others.

Workshop Dates: June 19-24, 2023

Application Deadline: May 1, 2023, admission is on a rolling basis

Program: The UC Veterans Summer Writing Workshop is a week-long intensive creative writing program for UC student veterans. The Workshop was founded seven years ago in the belief that when veterans write and share stories about their military experiences, they gain valuable self-knowledge, discover new meanings in their lives, heal invisible wounds, strengthen their communication skills, and deepen their connections to the civilian world.

In the workshop, students learn how to compose stories about their military experiences, guided by instructors who have worked extensively with veterans. The workshop is also a wonderful opportunity to connect and build relationships with other veterans from across the UC system.
