Eva Vaillancourt examines the emergence of road traffic rules in Britain and its Empire, from the late 19th century to the middle of the 20th. She uses the regulation of street movement as a lens through which to examine this period's wider debates about rules and discretion, risk and ethics, diversity and the sources of social order.
