5 Broken Cameras (2011)
Co-directed by Palestinian villager Emad Burnat and Israeli activist filmmaker Guy Davidi, 5 Broken Cameras brings a personal perspective to the all too familiar images of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Emad gets his first video camera when his fourth son is born. At the same time, Emad's village begins to peacefully resist the construction of a wall that will separate their farmlands. What begins as a way to document and remember the growth and development of his son quickly becomes an important activity for protecting members of his community from police aggression. Emad's first camera is smashed while filming a protest, but a strong network of friends keeps Emad stocked with a new camera every time one is broken. The life and death of his five cameras become the chapters in his story.
