Academic Writing and Publishing 2.0: eJournals, Blogs, Wikis, Tweets
The second Lunch Forum on Digital Technology in Humanities Scholarship will feature two short talks and a general discussion on "Academic Publishing 2.0." Our speakers will be Nathan MacBrien, Publications Director for International and Area Studies at UC Berkeley, and Joshua Clover, Professor of English at UC Davis.
Nathan will address new models of collaboration among libraries, academic units, and publishers for the promotion of specialized scholarship in open-access environments. Joshua will consider the distinction that various people make between the meanings of "free" in the sentence "information wants to be free" and then talk about what books of poetry and cultural criticism might look like in a world where it was impossible to charge money for books.
After the two short talks, the forum will open up to a general audience Q&A and conversation about the topics. Light refreshments will be provided.
