Pauline Yu, President, ACLS
Pauline Yu has been President of the American Council of Learned Societies since July 2003. Professor Yu’s scholarship focuses on classical Chinese poetry, comparative literature, and issues in the humanities. She is the author of The Poetry of Wang Wei and The Reading of Imagery in the Chinese Poetic Tradition, the editor of Voices of the Song Lyric in China, and coeditor of Culture and State in Chinese History and Ways with Words: Writing about Reading Texts from Early China. Yu has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the ACLS, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and was awarded the William Riley Parker prize for best PMLA article of 2007. Professor Yu previously served as Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Dean of Humanities in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Los Angeles.
