Gopal Balakrishnan is Associate Professor of the History of Consciousness at the University of California Santa Cruz. He was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute (2000) and a Harper Schmidt Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago (2001-2005). Professor Balakrishnan has been on the Editorial Board of the New Left Review from 1996 to the present. He is the author of The Enemy, an Intellectual Portrait of Carl Schmitt, (2000) and Antagonistics, (2008). His forthcoming book on the future of capitalism is entitled Absolute Capital.
